Haslingden continue with their dominance of Division 1 of the Fruit Shoot North West Junior League with four wins out of four in the latest tournament held in Chester on Sunday 4th February.
However, Division 2 could not be closer with four teams separated by only three points.
Division 1
This year’s Haslingden side is proving to be an extremely powerful outfit and now have a 100% record of 12 wins from 12 games.
The guile of Collinson and the power of Moores have been know about for some time but at this tournament the superb wing play of Nick Greenwood came to the fore.
This gave Haslingden another dimension in attack for which no team had a response. As usual Monkseaton gave Haslingden their closest match, but the ability to score from almost any position always gave the Lancashire side the edge.
Special mention to new club Mersey HC who stepped in at short notice to guest for Bolton HC who where unavailable this time.
The young players have only been playing a few weeks, and when pitched against the older more experienced teams in this top division they inevitably struggled.
However, they never gave up and steadily improved through the day as their crash course in the sport started to tell.
Hopefully next time they will be able to be accommodated in Division 2 and play against players more of their level.
Division 2
In Division 2 things could not be different with four teams all vying for top spot.
Even after three tournaments these clubs are difficult to separate as they continue to beat each other and not allow anyone to establish a lead.
The games between Birkenhead, Chester and Helmshore were never won by more than one goal.
Add into this the return of Blackburn who beat two of the top three teams and the division provides some extremely exciting handball.
Monki KS2 provided the shock of the day by beating reigning champions Chester by the odd goal.
Birkenhead top this division by goal difference from Chester but with Helmshore and Monki KS2 within three points that could all change in Tournament 4.
