Sir Steve Redgrave to be guest of honour at Cup Final
Great Britain's most successful Olympic athlete and one of the nation's most celebrated sporting champions Sir Steve Redgrave will be the guest of honour at Rugby League's forthcoming Carnegie Challenge Cup Final.
Sir Steve will attend the showpiece match between Catalans Dragons and St Helens at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 25th August 2007 (ko 3pm) and will present the trophy to the winning team.
Sir Steve has previously attended the sport's major events including the Rugby League World Cup Final between Australia and New Zealand in 2000 and is known to be a follower of both codes of Rugby.
Commenting, the RFL's Executive Chairman Richard Lewis said; "Sir Steve Redgrave is the epitome of absolute sporting excellence and is a globally recognised figure.
"We are therefore delighted that he is our chief guest at the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final and we look forward to welcoming him for what is set to be a magnificent occasion as the sport returns to Wembley Stadium".
Lewis added: "With Sir Steve's unparalleled record as a winner, it is also highly appropriate for him to present the trophy to the winning captain."
Sir Steve Redgrave added; "I am looking forward to Rugby League's Challenge Cup Final coming back to Wembley.
"I used to be a regular at the event and was honoured to be asked to present the trophy on this special occasion."
