Netballers prepare for England tour of Australia

8th June 2010

Six TeamBath members of TeamBath’s Superleague winning netball team will feature in England’s forthcoming tour to Australia.
The tour is part of England’s preparations for the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, which take place in October.
Six TeamBath players and five former players are in England’s 16-strong squad for the tour. The final Commonwealth Games squad of 12 players is due to be announced in August.
TeamBath captain Pamela Cookey, Serena Guthrie, Sasha Corbin, Eboni Beckford-Chambers and Stacey Francis feature in the squad. They are joined by Lindsay Keable, who has been called up to the senior squad for the first time and flies out with the squad on Friday (11 June), her 22nd birthday.
Speaking at Monday’s celebration event to mark TeamBath’s fourth Superleague triumph, Cookey, a University of Bath Business Administration graduate, said: “The whole squad are up for it. We’re really excited about Australia.”
The touring squad also includes Tamsin Greenway, Rachel Dunn, Geva Mentor, Sara Bayman and Ama Agbeze, all of whom were TeamBath players and developed their skills at the University.
The University of Bath has one of the leading university sports departments in the UK. Under its TeamBath brand, its success is based on the expertise and dedication of staff, and its excellent facilities, used by the community and Olympic medal winners alike.
