Rip Curl Grom Search runs training prog despite lack of surf
The second Rip Curl Grom Search was held at Woolacombe bay in North Devon on Saturday 16th August despite lack of surf.
Over 30 kids between the ages of 5–16 attended training sessions with professional coaches and international judges. Grommets from all over the UK got tips on event stategy, diet and fitness and were put through their paces in a sponge-board competition – the only way to ride the minuscule conditions.
Taking advantage of the perfect weather event organisers finished the day’s activities off with a fitness test in the form of a run-paddle-run. Splitting the groms up into teams of 8, the kids had to run 100 meters down the beach then paddle out round Rip Curls very own head of sales – Graham “Bracey” Bracegirdle then back to the beach for the final sprint to the finish line. The winning team each walked away with a bag of prizes whilst every other grom was stoked to leave the beach with a Rip Curl goodie bag.
The next Rip Curl Grom Search will be held at Watergate Bay on the 13-14th September.
