Newly trained Mini Squash Leaders from the West Midlands are ready to be deployed at their local Clubs in Warwickshire. Thirteen teenagers from Kenilworth, Leamington and Solihull Arden Squash Clubs keenly attended a subsidised course put on by the West Midlands Area Office, and are now going back to their Clubs to assist with weekly Junior sessions.
All the Junior Volunteers who attended the 1-day course are now qualified to assist a Level 1, 2 or 3 coach deliver Mini Squash at Clubs and Schools. By volunteering at this age they will gain valuable coaching experience, and it is the hope that they will progress to UKCC Level 1 and beyond to become the coaches of the future.
The West Midlands Area Office will also look to place these valuable Volunteers at local competitions and events, after the success of doing this at the English Grand Prix at the University of Birmingham back in September 2007.
Area Manager Amy Cleeton was pleased at the take-up, "Having thirteen more qualified Leaders in the Region is superb. After the success of the course at Stourbridge last year we now have over twenty recently certified Junior Volunteers which is crucial to the development of squash coaching and volunteering in the West Midlands."

Each candidate on the course received Mini Squash resource cards, Mini Squash balls and an England Squash 'Junior Volunteer' t-shirt to wear whilst they assist at their Club. Thanks go to Steve Townsend and Kenilworth Lawn Tennis and Squash Club for hosting the course, and to other coaches in the area for promoting the day and nominating their Junior Volunteers to take part.
If you are between the age of 14 and 16 and would like to take part in the next West Midlands based Mini Squash Leaders Award then please contact the Area Office and provide your details.
