Club Activities
Newbury Road and Mountain Bike Club serves cyclists in the Newbury (Berkshire, UK) catchment area, approximately 60 miles west of London on the M4 corridor. It has been established since 1925, promotes all forms of cycling and in 2000 celebrated its 75th Anniversary.
The club organises time trials with at least one and often two events a week during the season. These include club events as well as "Open" events. Most of the club time trials take place on the A4 to both the east and west of the Newbury and Thatcham conurbation.
The club holds a series of criterium road races in mid-summer and promotes an LVRC veterans road race which takes place locally during the summer.
The club also has a mountain bike section with a series of races arranged from February to October including an evening series during the summer months. Whilst the club is focused mostly around competitive events we also organise two 'Audax' events during the year and arrange several 'youth hostel' weekends, both of which cater particularly for the touring cyclist. We have members involved with almost all aspects of cycling who are happy to offer advice to beginners, young or old. During the winter there are regular club runs on Sunday mornings for both the road and mountain bike rider, with a choice of a social or training pace.
Our membership numbers between 100 and 200, and encompasses the whole spectrum of age with active members from 4 years old up to well into their 70's, both ladies and men, boys and girls. We see our club as having an important function in promoting not only competitive events but also in being a voice and a focus for cyclists in the Newbury area.
