The Severn Road Club is a cycling club based in the north of Bristol and South Gloucestershire. The club encourages cycling in all its legitimate phases but is primarily involved in Road Time Trials and Road Racing. For those who prefer the green and brown stuff, the club also involves itself with Cyclo Cross during the winter months.

About the Club

The Severn Road Club was founded in 1932, this being the clubs 70th year. The current membership is drawn largely from the northern part of Bristol and South Gloucestershire but we welcome members from all over the south west and beyond. The club is affiliated to the following cycling bodies:

British Cycling - BC (Formerly The British Cycling Federation) Road Time Trials Council British Cyclo-Cross Association Western Time Trials Association Western Counties Road Records Association Hengrove Park Cycle Racing Association Page Community Centre Kingswood Sports Council English Schools Cycling Association

The club promotes a number of events each year in time trial, road racing and cyclo-cross disciplines. A popular promotion is our summer evening 10 series running from April to August each year. This is a good opportunity for anyone interested in having a go at racing for the first time, or for those who just want to see what its all about.

There are many benefits with being a member of "The Severn", as it is affectionately known, including organised training rides through the winter months and riding as part of a team in races. In fact, The Severn won team gold in the West DC 10 mile championships and Bronze in the 25 mile title in 2001. The team also finished second in the WTTA hard rider series last year.

We have a membership covering all ages and social groups and everyone is welcome. Each year a number of trophies are awarded for racing performances throughout the season ranging in category from Juvenile (under 16) to Vets (over 40's). There are also specific trophies for the ladies to aim for without the men getting in the way. One of the most rewarding trophies is the meritorious service cup awarded to the person nominated to the committee for their good deeds in the name of the club. For a full and detailed list of the trophies up for grabs each year visit the trophy page.

As you will see from this web site, while there are a number of pieces of silverware up for grabs to grace your mantel piece, you can also aim for a place in the clubs fun league hall of fame. There are categories for consistency, best time by a club man or women on the local "U" courses, the most entries in Cycling Weekly or perhaps the lantern rouge - "I only race for the fun of it" - zone is your biologically pre-determined home. In any case you can have fun by tracking your closest club rivals to see who will get the upper hand at the end of the season.

Whatever happens the, "I spent too much time on the club website and didn't get the training in." will not be excepted as a valid excuse for coming in half an hour down on the winner!!! Enjoy.
