Ravenshead Cricket Club was formed at a meeting at the Hutt public house in Ravenshead on 19th June 1968 at a time when the village was starting a period of major housing development.
Games were originally played in a field just of the A60 until a permanent ground was established at Burntstump Country Park, previously known as Sherwood Lodge and owned by the NCB. The ground is now on a long-term lease from Gedling Borough Council.
The club played originally all friendlies until we were entered into the South Notts Village League in 1979. We played in Division 3 until 1982 when the club finished top of the league and gained promotion to Division 2. We gained immediate promotion the following season to Division 1, the highest point the club has ever played at.
Over the following 5-6 seasons we dropped down to Division 4 through relegations and league restructuring. In the early 1990’s we twice gained promotion to reach Division 1 again. For the last decade we have played at the same standard and are currently in Division 1E.
The club entered a 2nd XI into the league in 1992 and this has proved a good level for promising youngsters and the more senior members of the club to play at. We have also experienced some success in Cup competitions over the years, winning the Singleton Trophy in 1984 and finishing runners up in 1987 and 1988.
We also played in the Nottinghamshire Evening League for a number of seasons gaining promotion to Division 2 at one point.
