The Bowmen of Ardleigh Archery Club was founded in 1953 and has always encouraged a friendly, informal atmosphere although adhering to the Rules of Shooting of the Grand National Archery Society. We have a membership varying between 70 and 80 archers, in ages ranging from around 9 years to our Life President , now 88, who has been with us since 1954 and is still shooting regularly. Junior members under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent, or an adult sanctioned by the parents, at all attendances.

We shoot predominantly Recurve and Longbow on our outdoor and indoor ranges, which are both located at Bretons Manor. The outdoor range is available every day of the year and the indoor range is available on Sunday afternoons from October to March and every Friday evening all year. During the Summer period, members are strongly encouraged to shoot outdoors, especially on Friday evening and generally use the indoor range only when the weather is rather more inclement. Beginners Courses We hold a free “Come and Try Archery” Session, usually on the last Saturday in April. All necessary equipment is supplied and there is one to one guidance from experienced archers. This is followed by a Beginners’ course on the three following Wednesday evenings. A course costs £20 for adults and £15 for juniors, with all equipment supplied. These dates might be varied according to demand. If you join our club after our course is completed, this amount is then credited towards your membership fee. All equipment can be hired for a nominal sum after you join.
