Anchor Bowmen Archery Club has been in existence for over 40 years and the earliest record known are minutes of a committee meeting from 1963 held at the Roebuck Inn, Melbourne. 

The clubs name came from where it originally started, at the ground adjacent to the church at Swarkstone. This is very close to the river Trent and a hermits cave known as the Anchor Cave, which is understood to have originated from the earlier name of the church, The Anchor Church at Swarkstone Bridge.

The club has been at The Asterdale, Spondon since 1995.

Anchor Bowmen Archery club is run on a voluntary basis for the members.
