The long awaited White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre opened its doors for the first time on Thursday 28th March 2002. It has cost £10 million and taken two years to build and is certainly one of England’s finest public sports facilities. With air-conditioned facilities, the center offers the public a fantastic range of sporting activities and health facilities, ranging from a 4000 sq ft gym, aerobic studios, squash courts, indoor five-a-side football, badminton, netball, basketball and bowls, to name but a few. The main pool is an eight-lane competition pool, with a teaching pool and toddler pool for the less able and younger users. Close by are the sauna and steam rooms. For the first time in Abingdon, swimming will be available from 6:30am until 10:30pm (except Saturdays). The aerobics studio will be utilized at all times offering over 50 classes per week. There is also a fully registered crèche facility, which is open daily between 9am and 3pm. No longer is Oxfordshire the only county nationwide without an indoor public tennis facility. Now budding Henmans can train on any one of six pre-bookable indoor courts or in all weathers on one of our ten outdoor courts (six are floodlight). In the KidsZone of the tennis complex, two short courts provide ideal facilities for our younger rising tennis starts. Users will be able to enjoy a range of post-exercise snacks and light refreshments at our cafeteria or licensed bar. There is also free parking for 240 cars.
