National Pride As Skiers Shine
5th August 2002The Spiked Silver 50th British National Championships took place this weekend at Princes Club, Bedfont where for the first time all three major National Championships - Youth, Open and Senior took place at the same time, making this – if not the busiest then the most exciting events of the season.
Britain’s brightest and best were out in force competing against each other for gold; there were some nail biting moments in the youth and senior sections as well as the overall and open sections.
Marie Toms, a lottery backed skier, was gold medallist in the Ladies’ Overall, she said, “Despite being a bit disappointed in my individual events, I was really delighted to be top in the Overall; the whole weekend was great.”
And Overall Men’s gold medallist Jason Seels, also a lottery backed skier, surprised even himself with his slalom performance. “I was really happy to win the slalom event but it was a bit of a surprise; and then I just had to sit and wait and hope that no one beat my score.” Securing his seventh jump title and going on to be Overall gold medallist he said “ I am really very pleased because I lost out last year. It is great to be back at the top of the Overall.”
