Killeen fifth in Canada
27th June 2005England cyclist Liam Killeen - who aims to repeat his Commonwealth Games medal winning performance in Melbourne next year - followed up his victory in the marathon World Cup event in Canada with a fifth place in the cross-country race.
The 23-year-old won a bronze medal in the cross-country competition at the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games - his first medal at senior international level.
He continued his build-up for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games by securing fifth place in the fifth round of the World Cup cross-country series in Canada on Saturday (25th June).
Killeen clocked a time of 1:59.55 - less than two minutes behind the event winner and reigning World Champion Christoph Sauser from Canada. Canadian national champion Geoff Kabush was the highest placed Commonwealth finisher - he came third.
Killeen's fifth place was his highest World Cup cross-country finish of the season and was enough to push him up one place in the overall rankings to seventh with five of eight races completed.
A week earlier the Malvern cyclist won the Canadian round of the marathon World Cup after entering the gruelling 101km event as a training run. That performance put him sixth overall after three round of that discipline.
