Walker proves 2012 potential

19th July 2008

Jessica Walker, just 18, has won the European U23 K1 1,000m flatwater canoeing title this morning in Szeged, Hungary.

She's also the fastest qualifier for the 500m final which takes place tomorrow morning. Both are Olympic-class events.

Her victory today follows her selection yesterday for the Olympic Games in Beijing next month in the K2 events with experienced paddler Anna Hemmings.

What a week for this talented teenager who was born in Brighton, lived on the Isle of Wight for several years before moving to London and who is developing into one of GB's leading hopes for 2012.
