Disability Sport Events (DSE) are looking for everyone to get involved in their ACROSS BRITAIN CHARITY BIKE RIDE in September and help smash the £10,000 target. Three cyclists will go from Londonderry to Skegness in just four days all in aid of DSE’s National Junior Swimming Championships.
The epic journey will begin on Monday 22nd September and will call at Belfast, Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield, raising money and spreading the word about the charity’s fabulous work along the route. Their mission will end at Skegness Butlins on Thursday 25th September.
DSE are raising money for the annual National Junior Swimming Championships in March 2009, to be held in Sheffield. This event hosts over 200 disabled swimmers who are all hopeful of reaching their international potential one day. The target is £10,000 and we would like your help to achieve it. Whether you can help through sponsorship, product donation or take part in our fundraising week, we would like to hear from you. Simply use the dedicated fundraising website www.justgiving.com/dsecharitybikeride
The team consists of Garry Hyndman– DSE’s National Events Coordinator (regions), Patrick Bonner– English Federation of Disability Sport’s (EFDS) North East Regional Development Manager and former World class Gymnast and Dave Padgen, who is EFDS’s South West Regional Development Manager as well as a former Paralympian. All three are keen for more people to get involved and beat the target which has been set for them. Garry, who has worked at DSE for two years, says:
“My older brother is disabled, so this has made me realise the importance of sport, not only in terms of health and fitness, but also the social benefits of participating. That reason has given me the motivation to complete this bike ride. I know how hard it is to raise funds for our work, but these events are vital and enable us to continue supporting disabled people in sport- regardless of their ability”.
So far supporters include- Raleigh, Impsport, SportFocus.com, Matthew Seed Photography, Village Hotel Hyde and Skegness Butlins.
