Mariana selected for Euro Team Championships
15th January 2009University of Bath student Mariana Agathangelou has been named in England’s 12-strong squad to contest next month’s badminton European Team Championships.
The 20-year-old Coach Education and Sports Development student is one of the youngest members of the team for the championships, which take place in Liverpool from 10 to 15 February.
Anthony Clark, Nathan Robertson, Andrew Smith and Donna Kellogg, all members of Great Britain’s Beijing 2008 Olympic badminton team, also feature in the team for Liverpool.
Mariana was in impressive form at the tail end of 2008, winning back-to-back women’s doubles titles at the Bank of Scotland International Badminton Championships and the Yonex Welsh International Championships.
She won’t be paired up with her regular partner for the European Team Championships – Jillie Cooper features in the Scottish team for the competition.
England have been drawn in the same pool as the Czech Republic, Scotland and Wales for the group stage of the championships.
Mariana is coached by TeamBath’s head badminton coach Pete Bush at the high performance badminton centre at the University of Bath.
