Weale and Livingston win ahead of World Champs
26th July 2009Sam Weale and Katy Livingston took the senior titles at the British Senior and Junior National Pentathlon Championships in Bath today (Sunday).
The event was the last competition British pentathletes will compete at ahead of the World Championships, which take place at Crystal Palace from 13-17 August.
Weale went into the combined run/shoot second behind fellow Beijing 2008 Olympian Nick Woodbridge, but overhauled him to win the senior title with 5844 points, with Woodbridge coming home second on 5688.
Livingston also went into the run/shoot in second, two seconds behind Louise Helyer in the competition at the University of Bath. She overtook her on the second shoot and went on to win comfortably with 5712 points. Helyer took second on 5596 with Heather Fell third with 5460.
Freyja Prentice won the women’s junior event with 5520 points. She went into the run/shoot second to Charlotte Grandfield, but overtook her in the final run/shoot to collect the title. Grandfield finished second on 5364.
Arthur Lanigan O’Keefe won the men’s juniors competition with 5796.
The competition was run over two days, rather than a single day, which is traditionally used in the sport.
