Catch the best of British Water Polo before the Olympics
16th February 2011The ticketing schedule and prices for London 2012 were announced yesterday, but if you’re left wondering what Water Polo is all about now’s your chance to try before you buy!
The British Gas Water Polo Championships are taking place this weekend (Saturday 19th – Sunday 20th February) at the Manchester Aquatics Centre as the top four men’s and women’s teams from around the country battle for the British title.
Watch on as the rough and tumble sport of Water Polo brings the spectacle of rugby together with high speed swimming in what never fails to be an exciting clash.
City of Manchester Women’s side will be aiming to make it four in a row after winning back-to-back titles since 2008, and they are looking impressive after making their way through the British Water Polo League season with a run of 14 matches undefeated.
Up against them will be City of Liverpool, London Otter and West London Penguin who have all performed well this season with top four positions in the British Water Polo League.
Fighting it out for the Men’s title will be defending champions Lancaster who undoubtedly will bring their ‘A’ game to the table with last year’s runners-up Bristol coming into the tie in top form having just taken top spot in the League.
Cheltenham and City of Manchester round off the Men’s competition.
The weekend will see the semi-finals for both the men and the women contested on Saturday with the all-important final and bronze medal match played on Sunday.
