Women’s squad named for NatWest international matches

10th June 2013

Selectors today named a 15-player squad for two NatWest Women’s one-day internationals and two NatWest Women’s International T20 matches against Pakistan which commence in Louth, Lincolnshire on July 1.

Natasha Farrant, a 17 year-old, from Kent, Surrey’s Natalie Sciver and Yorkshire’s Lauren Winfield have received their first call up to the England Women’s squad for two NatWest Women’s one-day internationals and two NatWest Women’s International T20 matches against Pakistan.

Farrant, a left arm seamer, all-rounder Sciver and wicketkeeper batter Winfield have been added to the squad which is without Katherine Brunt, Holly Colvin and Laura Marsh for the matches which begin in Louth, Lincolnshire on July 1.

All have progressed through the England women’s performance pathway, impressing selectors in the women’s County Championship and during the ongoing Super 4s competition. Sciver was also part of the England Women’s Academy squad who beat Pakistan ahead of the 2012 NatWest Women’s International T20 Series.

Katherine Brunt is continuing a rehabilitation programme following a foot injury sustained during the ICC Women’s World Cup and Colvin is recovering from a fractured thumb sustained playing league cricket. Laura Marsh is also unavailable for selection due to continuing rehabilitation following shoulder surgery. All players will be reassessed before selection of the Women’s Ashes Series squad in July.

After the first game at Louth, the second NatWest Women’s one-day International and two NatWest Women’s International T20 matches will be played at the National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough University on July 3 and 5 respectively.

Head of England Women’s Cricket Clare Connor said: "We are thrilled to be hosting Pakistan in our first block of summer internationals. The ICC Women’s World Cup in India in February, with a huge global TV audience, brilliantly showcased the top eight teams in the world and we are delighted to host both Pakistan and Australia in England in the next few months. As we embark on a new ICC Women’s World Cup cycle, the matches against Pakistan will provide us with valuable opportunity to refresh certain elements of our ODI strategy and to expose a wider pool of players to the international arena.”
