ECB appoints CA's Matt Dwyer

15th May 2015

ECB today announced that Matt Dwyer had been appointed as Director of Participation and Growth – a new role which will oversee all aspects of the recreational game in England and Wales.

Matt, who is currently Senior Manager of Market Development at Cricket Australia and has played a leading role in boosting participation levels in Australia, is expected to join ECB in July once his visa application process is completed.

A member of CA’s senior management team, Matt’s previous experience also includes leading national sales and marketing teams for major commercial brands such as Mars, Diageo and Nestle.

A keen grade cricketer, Matt has been involved in the amateur game for more than 30 years as a player, coach and administrator and is currently chairman of one of Australia’s largest junior cricket associations which boasts more than 270 teams.

In his new role, Matt will have full responsibility for the ECB’s Cricket Partnerships team and oversee the development and implementation of a game-wide strategy to get more people playing cricket more often.

The former England captain Mike Gatting, who has been ECB’s Managing Director - Cricket Partnerships since 2007, has taken up a new part-time position as Cricket Partnerships Ambassador. He will continue to provide support for a host of key grassroots initiatives including ECB’s annual volunteering event, NatWest CricketForce.

ECB’s Chief Operating Officer Gordon Hollins, who led the recruitment process for this role, said:

“As someone with a proven track record of success in increasing participation in cricket, Matt will make an excellent addition to the senior leadership team at Lord’s. His experience with Cricket Australia is highly relevant, whilst his extensive commercial background will also be invaluable to ECB as we seek to connect more closely than ever before with the players, officials, coaches and volunteers who make up our wider cricket family.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mike Gatting for the drive, dedication and commitment he has brought to the grassroots game over the past eight years – a period that has seen unprecedented levels of investment and greater opportunities for women, girls and disability cricketers to play the game.

“Mike remains a hugely influential figure across the recreational, professional and international game and I am delighted that in his new role he will continue to provide support for both ECB and our sponsors at key times in the cricketing calendar each year.”
