Simply the best
19th April 2004ITV has commissioned a two-hour prime time entertainment show based on a French format. Our working title is "Simply The Best", and will be presented by Phil Tufnell and Kirsty Gallagher. The show will be filmed in Jersey throughout the month of July and will be broadcast in July and September, with the first show being aired on Saturday July 17th. This is ITV’s most ambitious programme for years, never before has ITV scheduled a two-hour slot for a series of entertainment programmes dominating Saturday night viewing.
Mixing celebrities and contestants together in a showdown at sunset filmed in a specially built arena, and watched live by an audience of 1,500, Simply The Best will be a summertime extravaganza, a clash of the titans from 14 of the biggest uk cities, of which Leeds will be one. Each week two of the teams, each made up of six gym-fit contestants, the kind you have seen in shows like Gladiators, will battle it out for a position in the finals through a series of obstacle courses, physical and mental games, and quizzes. Interspersed in each episode will be live music from bands in the current chart, and each team will be supported by four celebrities who have ties to the city, producing an eclectic mix of challenging physical events, live music and stylish quizzes, bringing together celebrities and city folk alike.
As mentioned previously we are looking for men and women at the peak of their fitness to represent each city. We are going to be travelling around the country in May to hold open auditions to find our contestants. We are going to be visiting the following 14 cities around the country: London; Leeds; Manchester; Liverpool; Birmingham; Cardiff; Bristol; Leicester; Edinburgh; Glasgow; Belfast; Portsmouth; Newcastle and Sheffield.
