The Beacon Roads Cycling Club was founded in November 1946 by a group of 12 Birmingham cyclists, who met on the slopes of Beacon Hill on the southern outskirts of Birmingham. From those small beginnings, over 50 years ago, we have grown to be one of the largest clubs in the area. We have over 100 members (including 3 active founder members) whose ages range from 12 to over 70.
The Club meets socially every Thursday evening, from 8pm onwards, at the Rednal Social Club, Barnt Green Road, Barnt Green, Birmingham (just past the Poacher's Pocket traffic island). Ask at the bar and you'll be directed to our clubroom. There is a full programme of social events throughout the year, for members, families and friends. We publish a regular club newsletter, HUB-UB, which is circulated free to all members, and includes the latest clubrun list.
We cater for all aspects of the sport and pastime, with regular club runs for both road and off road enthusiasts. Our racing members compete in road races, time trials, track and MTB events, at all levels and in all age groups. During the summer we promote our own programme of club time trials. We have regular Saturday, Sunday and mid-week club runs and training runs, and our members have toured extensively in the UK and abroad.
Not content with riding bikes, we provide RTTC, BCF and RRA Timekeepers and Officials, whilst members raised £1200 for Children in Need, through a roller-racing event held at a local Safeway store.
