In 2001, SportFocus launched their portal (www.SportFocus.com), which is committed to addressing the sporting community at large and assisting in participation in sport at all levels.

SportFocus, as a multi-dimensional facility for sport and leisure, aims to make it as easy and attractive as possible to find out about any aspect of sport and leisure by providing open access to a network of sport and leisure information and services.

Ultimately, SportFocus intends to be ‘the’ default portal that people associate with when they think of sport and leisure.

The Sports Directory

As a part of the Portal we have been building a ‘Searchable’ database of every sports club, sports provider and all sport and leisure facilities. We currently have over 60,000 listings in the database and we cover over 100 sports.

We recognise that many clubs and organisations already have their own web sites but the great beauty about the directory is the ease of finding the facility you are looking for as it is registered under it’s own category, such as ‘Fitness’ or ‘Swimming’ etc.

Content Sharing

SportFocus have already spent a lot of time developing the content for a sport and leisure portal, and this is information, which can easily be shared using the appropriate technology.

We have most recently been awarded a contract by one of the Sports Specialist Colleges to build a Sports and PE Network for Buckinghamshire. We are designing the architecture in such a way that this can be easily replicated and implemented in any UK county.

We are continuing to work with a broad range of organisations involved in sport and leisure and therefore will continue to broaden and develop our range of content.

Content Management

It is often said that a website or portal is only as good as its content!  A site may look good with graphical enhancements, but if the content is not relevant or useful to the user then the site will not hold the attention of the user.  Not only does content need to be relevant but also it needs to be kept fresh and up to date in order to ensure people keep coming back.

The pure ease of use and maintenance of our technology led us by request to build Web sites for our clients.   Traditionally the upkeep of websites required programming skills, however, our technology allows an administrator who can use Microsoft Word to add and amend content on a site.

Our technology enables the user to self-publish content on their own directory listing and for clients that we have developed Web sites for their content can automatically be published on their listings on the main Portal, while they are updating their own sites.

Furthermore, because of our focus on sport and leisure we have developed a League Administration system, which allows league administrators to just enter results (regardless of the sport) and have the league tables calculated automatically.  This invaluable tool has been designed with the volunteer in mind, aiming to make it easier not only to calculate results and league tables but to share that information easily.
