4 goal Michael Pollard was the hero off the day when his long range left foot strike caught the junction of the crossbar and post before going in to leave Wanderers keeper Richard Munro with no chance in the dying seconds of the game.

The crowd were treated to an excellent display of futsal from the two top Inverness sides, both of whom remained undefeated all season, in what was an end to end affair. A television audience of more than 10 million watched a recent futsal cup final in Russia and these teams showed how entertaining the sport is both to watch and play. Wanderers took command early on when Scott Mackain opened the scoring and this was soon followed by a nicely taken strike from Kevin Mapplebeck. In control Wanderers were beginning to look like it was going to one way traffic and when Mark Caldwell turned in a Mackain cross things were looking bleak for Motors. A spirited fightback though was led by captain Stephen Graham when he finished after nice play from Michael Turner and further goals from Alan Geegan and Pollard equalised shortly before half time.

Wanderers started the second half similar to the first and Mackain grabbed his second with a nice turn and shot less than a minute into the second half. Andrew Morrison then finished from a tight angle with Motors keeper Iain Young making some fine saves to keep their title hopes alive. Pollard then pulled one back before Caldwell’s second maintained the Wanderers 2 goal lead. Motors began to pile on the pressure and got the two goals required when George Russell set up Stephen Graham and Mike Pollard to tie the game at 6-6. When Mackain took Gavin Nicholson’s pass passed Graham to slot home it looked like being enough for victory but man of the match Mike Pollard’s heroic finish with 15 seconds to go forced Thursday nights play off at the Inverness Sports Centre – 9:30pm kick off. This match will be played to a finish on the day with extra time and penalties if required.

In other matches Porn Stars sealed third place when they defeated fourth placed Unison 9-4. Top of the goalscoring charts before the day’s game was youngster Martin MacDonald who despite netting 4 goals slipped to third in the charts going into Sunday’s tournament. Porn Stars have been an excellent advert for the sport throughout the season scoring 77 goals in their 8 matches with Macdonald hitting 23 of them. John Cummings’ side have developed a smooth passing style which is a joy to watch and with most of their team being under 21 things look very bright for this young side. Scott Davidson, Michael Laidlaw 2, Cummings & Gordon Mackenzie all scored for Stars with Unison consolations coming from 9 goal MacGinty, Reid and a double from Chris Allan.

Joint league top goalscorer Sean Gorman took his tally to 25 as he helped Phoenix overcome Culloden with seven of his sides 11 goals. Debutant Allan Macleod and under 19 star Ruarhaidh Morrison both scored doubles with a long range left foot strike the highlight of the match from MacLeod. Culloden also had a debutant to thank in their team with Peter MacPherson scoring a nicely taken hat-trick alongside Colin Fraser’s 3 goals, John Quinn & George Fleming to round off the Culloden goals. The match was marred with a knee injury to Fleming late in the game which was a bad end to a successful season for the Culloden player who has put in a string of solid display’s for his side.

Free scoring Iain MacBean returned from a two week absence to score 8 goals in Mojo’s narrow 11-10 victory Select Floors. The result was another one goal defeat for Floors which despite finishing bottom had 4 of their defeats by less than 2 goals. Andrew Laing scored twice himself and had several assists for Mojo’s while Floors had Steven Leighton and captain Richad Geddes scoring 4 goals each taking their tallies to 11 & 9 respectively. An Allan MacIntyre double rounded off the 10 goals for Floors.

Sunday 19th September will see the end of the trial futsal season with the Donald Mackenzie Cup which is open to any teams to enter. Favourites will be a team from Perth, Wanderers & Motors but Porn Stars will feel aggrieved if they don’t take any silverware from all their hard work. Contact Scott Mackain on 07753835276 for further information or to register your team.
