It’s been a year now since I began working as Off road Horse Riding Development Officer and the time seems to have flown by. The first part was spent making contacts and looking at the areas identified in the Off-road Horse Riding Strategic Review and establishing which sites are potentially viable.

There are many projects and at various stages, one of them is the Grey Abbey Estate Project and to date we invited Dafydd Davis MBE, internationally renowned trail designer, over to design the trail, which includes a major new build section in the Woods on the estate.  This design is now complete and we will be inviting ‘Expressions of Interest’ from suitably qualified trail construction companies, in the very near future, and are intending to commence the construction work next March.

Dafydd Davis has also completed a site assessment report on Woodburn Forest, which clearly shows the sites strategic importance. We are currently in communication with Water service and Forest Service regarding a potential trail within Woodburn Forest.

If anyone would like more information etc please contact Heather on 028 90303934

EQUESTRAIN - CODE OF CONDUCT

After consultation with farmers, many equestrian bodies, rambling associations and cycling associations we created the Off-Road Horse Riding Code of conduct, which we hope everyone will follow. It is basically for your and other users and the lands protection, and we hope this way of going will help encourage landowners to allow us access to their land.

So please follow this code of conduct when you’re out riding it can only help!
