£500,000 facelift unveiled at Burscough Sports Centre

Fitness enthusiasts can now see the massive £500,000 transformation that has taken place at Burscough Sports Centre, which is to be officially unveiled on 20th January.
A cool half a million pounds has been spent on the centre to ensure that customers benefit from the latest high-tech workout equipment and even more opportunities to keep fit.
The centre’s refurbishment works mean that people can now enjoy leisure facilities that are on a par with private health clubs.
New top-of-the-range cardiovascular and resistance equipment has been installed in the fitness suite, which has now actually tripled in size because it has moved to the old small hall. There is a brand new dance studio and a more varied programme of exercise classes. The changing rooms have also been refurbished and there is also improved disabled access.
Improvements to the facilities are all thanks to the newly formed West Lancashire Community Leisure Trust, which is a partnership between the Trust, operating company SERCO Leisure Ltd and West Lancashire District Council.
Cllr David Westley, Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said:
“When you walk through the doors of Burscough Sports Centre the transformation is astounding. Gone is the old small fitness suite and in its place is a state-of-the art gym that has trebled in size, meaning that customers have even more space and better facilities for their workout. The new dance studio at Burscough will also provide even more opportunities to extend the exercise programme.
“The works are part of the Council’s policy commitment to improving leisure facilities across the district and ensuring that all needs are catered for.
Burscough’s refurbishment is only the start of a variety of exciting things to come for the leisure centres. This fantastic partnership will ensure that the people of West Lancashire enjoy first class facilities on their doorstep.”

The first phase of the scheduled improvements at Burscough Sports Centre is now complete and we would like to thank the customers and staff for their patience whilst the refurbishment was taking place. I am sure they all agree, any disruption caused has been well worth it! Particularly, when you consider that this is only the first phase of a significant financial investment by Serco and further improvements are yet to come over the next few months.
