The England Men’s team failed in their bid to beat group favourites New Zealand in Bendigo. Both teams entered the game after recording opening group game victories. In a keenly fought opening period neither team could establish a clear lead. New Zealand just edged the 1st quarter 18-17.
The second quarter was fought in a similar manner with Andrew Sullivan leading England’s cause with 13 first half points. However England came unstuck in the last 2 minutes of the half as New Zealand went on an 11-2 run to go into half time 39-29 up.
England picked up the defence in the third quarter causing New Zealand to take a few rushed shots and commit a number of 24’second shot clock violations. But it end it was England's offence that proved to be their downfall as only Sullivan and John Amaechi managed to reach double figures.
England will now go into Mondays game with South Africa needing to win to secure a place in the Semi Finals.
