WINDSOR U9 Bs GET AMONGST THE MEDALS AT MARLOW

The B Team played their hearts out at the Marlow Tournament on Sunday 26th March. Their efforts were duly rewarded when they secured medals as Runners Up in the Plate competition, ensuring that Windsor RFC Under 9s did not come away from the Tournament empty-handed.

 Game 1 v Aylesbury

A rampant display with Aylesbury never really in the game. Windsor showed excellent teamwork with great use of the line and aggressive driving. The score line told its own story: Windsor  40 points, Aylesbury 0 points.

Game 2 v Sandal

A more challenging game against the team which went on to make a clean sweep of the whole Tournament. Sandal played fluent and confident rugby putting Windsor under pressure from the start. In the face of this, Windsor made concerted defensive efforts and particularly in the second half managed to close down many attacking moves with their combative tackling. An exercise in containment with the final score Windsor 0 points, Sandal 10.

Game 3 v Beaconsfield

Getting back into their stride, Windsor produced another impressive team performance with the emphasis on timely and accurate passing along the line and a powerful presence in the set pieces. By exerting consistent pressure, the team created a wealth of space allowing Edward Rowell to sprint to very good effect with two flying forays over the goal line. Windsor 10 points, Beaconsfield 0.

Game 4 v Marlow Lions

Surely the match of the Tournament! With the opportunity to play for the Plate at stake, every inch of ground was fiercely contested and the first try from Windsor Captain Louis Brogan was greeted with jubilation because it was so hard-won. The host team was undaunted and countered fast at the restart, claiming one back. Play then settled into a war of attrition until a penalty in Windsor’s favour saw Thorley put a well-placed pass into the hands of Tom Berry who drove through the Marlow defence to score the final try of the game. The hosts were beaten and Windsor had their chance to play on: Windsor 10 Points, Marlow Lions 5.

Game 5 v Teddington

Windsor forwards were in rampaging mood with powerful driving mauls their hallmark. But making use of the ground thus gained proved frustratingly difficult as an organised Teddington side rolled back the advantage and executed a series of clearly well-rehearsed plays. Windsor showed enormous determination in the second half culminating in their only try of the game but could not prevent the match concluding at Windsor 5 Points, Teddington 15.  Not the result they would have desired, but enough to earn them well-deserved Runners Up medals.

This was an outstanding Tournament performance from players who really gelled together as a team, a tribute to the efforts of the coaching staff: Chris Addis, Ray Cox and Chris Baumann. Well done to all the boys!
