Squash in Sussex is definitely on the up!  Once again England Squash, the North Wealden Schools Partnership Competition Manager (Andy Wright), Crowborough Squash Club, and the Sussex Community Squash Coach, John Millard have got together and been working in partnership to deliver a mini squash programme in the Beacon community college’s cluster primary schools.  This term saw another 4 schools have a taster session and children then given the opportunity to participate in a Mini Squash after school club.

This year has been an excellent year for Mini Squash around the Crowborough area with 8 local primary schools being involved in the programme.  We now look forward to next year where once again all those involved will be hitting the local schools again to deliver the programme to the new year 4’s and also the year 3 children, and we hope other areas can now follow suit and take Mini Squash into the schools and engage the children of Sussex into the game.

After the huge success of the Mini Squash schools programme Crowborough has now more than doubled it’s junior section head coach Naomi Duthie stated  “having the opportunity to work the Andy and John has enabled the Junior Squash section at the club to grow and I am very pleased with the response we have had at the club, and look forward to next year and developing junior squash at the club even further.”
