Thirty-seven Tchoukball players from the UK will represent Great Britain in the 2006 European Tchoukball Championships next weekend.
Great Britain has a strong reputation for Tchoukball in Europe having finished runners-up in the 2003 European competition and forth in the World Championships two years ago. The country’s best players will form the men’s, women’s and two Under 18 squads in Macolin, Switzerland, for the 3 day event beginning on Friday 4 August 2006.
All three squads will be looking to win over the Swiss who currently hold the European trophies. The players have been training since January 06. Coach Richard Jackson recognises the strength of this year’s national squads:
Richard Jackson said:
“The squads have been training harder and harder since January this year and I fully expect us to put in one of the best national performances this year.
“We have many new players in the team, all of which have proved themselves capable of taking on Europe’s best.
“Our main opposition, the Swiss, are strong and play a fast and athletic game. But so do we and in particular, our strong team work will prove a major asset.
All training and competition now is excellent build up to next year’s World Championships in Brazil.”
Tchoukball is played all over the UK and is especially strong in Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire and Hampshire. People who are interested in joining a fast and athletic sports club are encouraged to contact Andrew St Ledger on 07092 018251 or log onto www.tagb.org.uk for more information.
