Edinburgh University played hosts to the East of Scotland cross country series organised by Scottish Disability Sport and held at Peffermill. The athletes had to contend with terrible weather but the event ran smoothly and the SDS athletics coordinator John de Courcey paid tribute to the excellent support provided by students from the university.

 

Balwearie High School pupils were in outstanding form in the section for athletes with a learning disability. They won a total of 8 titles and continued their excellent track record in the east of Scotland section of the cross country series. Title winners will now have the opportunity to take on the top athletes from the west of Scotland when they meet at the national championships in Livingston. Individual titles were won be the following Balwearie pupils.

Pupils from the Royal Blind school dominated the sections for athletes with a visual impairment. Individual title winners were Lee Haddow U15 boys 1 Km, Sinaed Bradley U15 girls 1 Km and Jillian Bell O15 girls 1Km. St Nicholas pupil Owen Tait won the U15 1Km boys title and Lyndsey McLaughlin from Drummond School won the O15 girls 2Km. A total of 5 titles were won by pupils from schools within the Edinburgh area.

 

Apart from the schools already mentioned there were participants from Alva Academy, Lothian Disability Sport and Elmwood College Cupar.
