SDS is delighted to announce that Michael McCreadie has been appointed team manager and Bob Dick the head coach of the Scottish bowls team that will compete in the World Championships in Sydney, Australia between 15 and 27 October 2007.  Michael successfully led the Scottish team to a silver medal at the International Bowls Test Match in Nottingham in 2006.  Bob Dick is one of the most respected coaches/managers in Scottish disabled bowls and led the Scottish bowls team to a gold medal at the Manchester Commonwealth Games.  He also led Scotland to victory at the first Home International held in Dumfries.  Together they will be a formidable duo.  Total concentration will now be on selecting the best team to represent Scotland at these first IBD World Championships.

The first of four training/selection days will be held at Whiteinch Indoor Bowling Club on Friday 20 April 2007.  Further training days will be held on the week beginning 14 May, week beginning 28 May and week beginning 11 June.  It is proposed that the Scottish team will be selected mid June in time for the names to be returned to the event organisers by the deadline of 30 June 2007.  Registered bowlers will receive a copy of the SDS Selection Policy.

The provisional make up of the Scottish team will be one male and one female bowler totally blind, three B2/B2 male or female bowlers from the B2 and/or B3 class, one team of three physically disabled female bowlers from and a team of five physically disabled male bowlers.  The format for the World Championships is similar to the format used successfully at the Nottingham International Test Series in 2006 where Team Scotland won the silver medal behind Australia.

Scotland’s leading bowlers with a physical disability or visual impairment are invited to register interest in being considered for the trials to be held on 20 April at Whiteinch between 12.00 and 14.00 hrs.  The enclosed expression of interest form should be completed and returned to Norma Buchanan in the Fife Office of SDS.  Players who are successful will be invited to further training days which will be led by head coach Bob Dick and team manager Michael McCreadie.  It is the intention over the period of the training days to reduce the team to a size of no more than 13 players.  However team size may be less than 13 depending on player ability.
