County Squad selection days 2007

On 21st, 28th, 29th April and 5th May Bucks Sport held Basketball Assessment Days to identify the best players in the county for u13 & u17 Boys and Girls. Each assessment took place at Aylesbury Grammar School and lasted for a gruelling 4 hours where attendees were put through their passes technically and physically.
Each session of 20–30 players was assessed by two or more experienced Coaches who collectively selected a squad between 14-20 players worthy to be representative of Buckinghamshire Basketball.
Each member of the selected squads will now attend regular County Training Sessions.
For all squads these sessions will be developing and preparing them for a further assessment day to be held regionally by the South Regional Coaches and their team of selectors. Boys and Girls from Bucks, Hamps, Berks and
In addition the u13’s squad will compete in the u14 Inter Association Competition 2007/08 run by the English Schools Basketball Association. This will ensure the squad stay together for the duration of the 2007/08 season and thus further aid their development.
At present it does not look like there will be a competition for the u17’s County team although County training sessions will be scouted by 6th Form Basketball Academy Coaches who will be looking for the elite players to join their Academies. These Academies could provide an excellent opportunity for young aspiring basketball players to obtain a good higher education as well as providing a pathway into playing UK/European/USA Professional Basketball in the future.
