U17's End of Year Awards Ceremony

                           "The Original's - Honoured at tonights award ceremony


Friday evening, on the 22nd of June, saw a glittering evening for the Windsor U17’s and their coaches, as they held their annual awards ceremony at the superb Castello’s restaurant in the shadow of Windsor castle.

Following an excellent meal and one or two speeches of varying clarity and erudition the following awards were made:

Most Improved Players:

Lewis Woolman, Peter Lewis and most notably Jack Foran.

Outstanding Performances in a single game:

Joe Baker v Chobham – renamed the “get underneath anyone trying to ground the ball in our goal area” award.

Lewis Woolman (again) v Reading – recent investigations have revealed that the chiropractor has finally Ok’d the Reading fullback for a return to light training, following the Woolman tackle.

Ben Tindall v Saltash – for being both scintillating and “laid back” at the same time

Outstanding Front Five Player of the Season:

Jamie Curtis

Player of the Year:

Jonny Whitehead

Player’s Player of the Year:

Joe Baker

A special award was cast this year for 6 players dubbed The Originals.  They are the players who all started playing with Windsor RFC U7 back in 1995 at the age of 5 and have continued with uninterrupted service (barring injury) all through Mini and Junior rugby and now move over in to Senior rugby with the Colts.

“The Originals” are:

Peter Lewis, Sam Turner, Caspar Hughes, Tom Bates, Richie Eccles and Joe Baker
 

Following the awards, the coaches played “calculate the bill with increasing horror and incredulity” a game they first learnt at the Viceroy last year, whilst the players all cleared off as they would have ruined the game had they been around.  Head Coach Julian Phelan won with an almost Messianic turning of £15 per head into £85 per coach.
