Smith again looks for unchanged side

4th July 2003

Huddersfield Giants Head Coach Tony Smith has named the same 18 that travelled to Wilderspool last week for Sunday’s home McAlpine fixture versus Wigan Warriors (kick off 5:30pm). Paul Reilly (knee) and Jarrod O’ Doherty (ankle) have responded to treatment and seem set to start in an unchanged line-up, the highlight of which could see Stanley Gene go head-to-head with the Papua New Guinea international Adrian Lam.

”Adrian and myself are very close friends” commented 29 year old Gene “and grew up in PNG together, playing in the National side the last time which was in the World Sevens in Sydney in January. Sunday though is the first time we’ve come head to head in the half-back roles and I know that I’ll need to be at my best to get the better of him as he’s a world class player. The dual has created a lot of interest back in PNG and support for us seem to be pretty much split down the middle.”
