Peebles Curling Club Round-up
One month into our new season and the league for the Challenge Rink Cup is under way with skips Morris Anderson, Graeme Coulthard, Roger Scott all recording one win and David Blackstock having two wins.
Province games (between Peeblesshire Clubs) have taken place with Peebles being unsuccessful in the first Mixed Bonspiel and managed (due to a bit of a nightmare by Roger Scott’s rink in the 6th end of their game) to draw against West Linton - clearly a case of snatching a draw from the jaws of victory as Robbie Goodburn’s rink had won by six!
Graeme Coulthard’s rink made an impressive start to their defence of the Mendick Trophy with a comfortable win against Neil Calvert’s rink from West Linton.
Roger Scott had a severe case of déjà vu when his rink played the ladies, skipped by Jean Hammond, in the first of the Blackwood Quaich games. Comfortably up after 5 ends a dreaded 6 shot against in the 6th end(again!!) befell Roger but his rink managed to squeak a win by 1 shot.
Our annual Pairs competition for the Wormiston Cup was keenly competed for
In the first game, John Hammond and Birthday girl Lesley Crawford emerged with a 9 shot win, and in their second game they finished with 5 more shots up, to win the Wormiston Cup. They were 10 shots clear of second pair Bill Brown and Evelyn Baird 4shots up, who also won both their games. Third pairing, also 4 shots up was Judy Cairns and Andrew Muir, who lost their first game by 3 shots but cancelled the deficit handsomely with a 7shot up win in their second game This means that John Hammond, Bill Brown and Judy Cairns and their respective partners will represent Peebles in the Province Pairs on 11 January 2009
Thanks to David Baird for his organisation of the competition
