Since February David Hymas(West Yorkshire Development Coach) have been visiting three primary schools in Halifax. All these schools are within walking distance to Queens Squash Club.
Each school has received mini squash coaching in their school halls, the sessions started with an assembly which was taken by Paul Hornsby (head coach at queens) and Dave. In the assembly they showed the children a video of a squash match and explained how mini squash worked. As a follow up from the assembly Dave then delivered 3 mini squash sessions with each school spread over 3 weeks.
After the coaching was complete the children were invited back to Queens Squash club to watch an exhibition match. This was an ideal opportunity for all the children to experience a proper squash match and also let them gather feedback from the children and hand out information on further coaching classes at the club.
After the exhibition match was over the children had a question and answer session with National Champion Jenny Duncalf. All the children were thrilled that Jenny had come and each class had their picture taken with her.
Queens Squash club provided light refreshments for all the children and staff. The school stayed at the club for around 1 hour and the already promising junior programme is set to grow as children from the chool have already expressed interest playing the game
