Professional Coach
One of the premier Squash Clubs in the UK seeks the services of a Professional Coach following the retirement of Mark Hornby after over 20 years valued service to the Club. The vacancy offers significant potential for personal development whilst the Club’s infrastructure and goals provide an opportunity for suitable candidates to make a significant contribution to Squash in the UK.
The main responsibilities will include:
· Developing talented juniors and seniors up to county and national levels.
· Attracting new Squash, Racketball & Fitness Club Members to the Club
· Developing social activity within the Club.
· Encouraging and assisting all Members to improve their skills
· Heading up the Club’s participation in the Yorkshire League.
· Guiding, developing and working with the Club’s Development Coach to improve the effectiveness of the schools/beginners programme
· Carrying out a range of administrative and managerial duties, several being IT related
Other earning opportunities are available through Private Coaching, running ESR Sanctioned Tournaments, Holiday Programmes and other aspects of the Club’s operation for which the candidate may be qualified. Remuneration will be commensurate with the responsibilities undertaken, which will be set down in a self-employed contract negotiated between the individual and the Club.
The Club
APR+FC is an ESR Gold Charter Club located in SW Sheffield on the Yorkshire/Derbyshire border with some 420 Rackets and 400 Fitness Suite members. It is based within a multi-sports site. Its enviable pedigree goes back to the 1930’s. It has seven Squash courts, including the All-glass show court, an extensive Fitness Suite, Exercise Studio, Shop and Treatment Room. The Club hosts the British Junior Open each January and other events throughout the year. The Club fields two teams in the Yorkshire League and a further seven in the Sheffield & District League. The Club already has a good, mixed squad of elite level juniors, including a current British National Champion and several other very highly ranked players.
The staff of Coaches, Fitness Instructors and Receptionists (all part-time) are supervised by a Club Committee of Volunteers, some of whom have executive responsibilities. It is eager to develop the Club further being ready and able to invest capital in its infrastructure and wanting to grow both its membership and social activities to help make it one of the most exciting and attractive Squash/RB and Fitness venues for all abilities and ages in the UK. The Person
Applicants should have played squash to a national standard and have a proven track record in developing player performance at both junior and senior level. A minimum UKCC Level 3 coaching qualification or equivalent is preferred.
We expect the person appointed to be equally comfortable working with nationally ranked Squash players or Racketball beginners and have the skills, charisma, initiative, enthusiasm and personal qualities to work with the Voluntary Committee in further developing the Club and ensuring that it continues to be one of the UK’s most innovative and highly regarded centres for Squash and Racketball. In addition to their technical qualifications, experience in management and/or IT would be an advantage
