Late last year BBC North West covered a story of a young 4 year old Finnlay Withington who attends nursery school at the All Saint’s Primary School in Bury.

Following the coverage on TV, John Gibson the Area Manager along with Becky Botwright the Development Coach for South Lancashire were invited to a meeting called by the Finnlays’ Headteacher, Gail Branch, who felt the opportunity was right to look at a development programme for the children in the local area!  Gail also invited along Anna Sheppard the Extended Services Coordinator for the Bury Area.

At the end of the meeting it was agreed that a project proposal would be drawn up and discussed at the next Whitefield Extended Services Cluster meeting in early February.  The proposal was carried and the schools programme linked to Fairways Lodge & Leisure Club in Prestwich, a Sport England Clubmark club, starts on 1st June.
The project includes:

5 Primary Schools, including one Special School Roadshow in each school After School Clubs at Fairways Lodge, Prestwich Minisquash Festival between the 5 schools

The coaching will be taken by Becky Botwright.  Total costs paid for by Extended Services is £3,250.  It includes a Teachers Award Course (10 teachers) to be held at Fairways Lodge on the 6th May, supply cover for those teachers, and 5 Minisquash Bags.

Our thanks to Anna, and especially to Gail Branch who has been so supportive of the project right from the outset!
