RFL to stage second annual Safeguarding Conference

As part of its commitment to improving environments at all its member clubs, the RFL is hosting its second annual Safeguarding Conference in Warrington on Sunday 9 August 2009.

The event which will be staged at Warrington’s Village Hotel and aimed at welfare officers, coaches and other volunteers – the people who are responsible for co-ordinating all safeguarding issues, CRB selection and recruitment.

Speakers at the conference will include Gill Joyce, from the NSPCC’s Child Protection in Sport Unit, the Independent Safeguarding Authority who will talk about the new vetting and barring system and the RFL.

Colette Eden, the RFL’s Safeguarding Manager, said: “The RFL is committed to increasing participation at all levels of the game and one of the best ways to achieve this is to ensure that the environments that all players, coaches and volunteers are exposed to are safe and secure.

“We now have over 300 Club Welfare Officers in place at clubs all over the country and this conference is an ideal opportunity for them to network, share best practice and learn more about some of the new rules and procedures that have recently been implemented.”

Places to the conference, which is open to all Regional and Club Welfare Officers, are free of charge and all attendees will be guests of the RFL at the Carnegie Challenge Cup Semi-Final between St Helens and Huddersfield Giants at Warrington’s The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
