As expected the competition favourites Ireland won the annual International Fly Fishing event for disabled anglers at Lough Melvin, Ireland between 18th and 22nd June, 2003. The competition results were as follows

1st Ireland 10 fish 10lb 9.75oz
2nd Scotland 7 fish 5lb 4oz
3rd Wales 6 fish 4lb 7oz
4th England 7 fish 4lb 5.3oz

The Irish team caught the most fish with the heaviest individual fish being 2lb 9oz. Scottish team member John Brice caught a salmon weighing 3lb 12oz which unfortunately could not be included in the total weight and had it been so it would have made a significant difference to the overall team total. SDS angling co-ordinator, John Hood, once again was top Scottish rod.

The trip to Ireland was an outstanding success and as always the Irish hospitality was outstanding. The weather conditions were horrible and on practice day there was a force 5 gale. On competition day one it was sunny and flat calm with bright sun on day two. The Scottish team experienced a long journey to Ireland followed by a hectic timetable but the team very much worked together and produced one of the best performances of the last few years. John was delighted with the overall Scots performance and has indicated that team members are really looking forward to next year's event. The team results were as follows:-

John Hood 2 fish 1lb 7.4oz
David Smith 2 fish 1lb 4.6oz
Fraser Renwick 1 fish 14.4oz
John Dailly 1 fish 14.4oz
Keith Duncan 1 fish 11oz (captain)
