Ally Fraser’s men ensured themselves top spot on the rankings with an emphatic seven-end 8-3 win over Denmark on Thursday evening.

This was the Scottish men’s eighth successive victory and they now go in against China on Saturday in the Page 1 v 2 game.

The Scottish men overwhelmed Denmark from the start, engineering single steals in each of the first three ends.  The Danes scored two in the fourth but then Fraser’s team produced a four in the fifth end to finish off the game as a contest.  The teams swapped singles in the sixth and seventh and then the Danes offered their hands in concession.

Afterwards, a pleased Fraser said, “we couldn’t ask for much more.  We played quite well and made the most of their errors”.

More generally, he added, “our target was to win a medal, and obviously now we want to win gold, so we’ll see what happens.  We’re feeling good now... we’re in the 1-2 game, so it’s still all to play for”.

Elsewhere, China beat Norway by 8-3, while Switzerland beat Sweden.  These results mean that both China and Switzerland have seven wins, one less than the Scots, but thanks to an earlier win between these two, China rank second while Switzerland are third, waiting the winner of a tie-break between Canada and Norway in the Page 3-4 game.
