Andy Misseldine from Haddenham Table Tennis Club and Dawn Pearce from Bucks County Council Table Tennis Club took the honours for the second year running in the Men’s and Ladies singles events at Stoke Mandeville Stadium last Saturday. In fact Andy’s win was the third in a row and he also won the Veteran’s (Over 40) Title for the second year as well as the Men‘s Doubles with club partner, Mark Scott beating Sports’ doubles partnership, Nick Hansell and Chris Haines. Dawn was equally competitive winning the Mixed Doubles for the second year with Michael Wilkins from the Bierton Club and the Ladies Doubles with Jan Crompton also from Bucks.

After the round robin group games sixteen Premier League players battled against each other in a highly competitive first round in the Men’s event. Dave Wackrill, from Sports, took 5 sets to fend off the challenge of Bucks’ Wilf Crompton only to capitulate to an aggressive Mike Atkinson in the semi final. In the other half Bellingdon’s Lee Rogerson lost out to Alan Cherry from Bierton who then had a tough semi final match with Andy Misseldine. Andy had previously dug deep to overcome his club mate, Darren Palmer in 5 sets and had to do it all again to beat Alan. Meeting Mike Atkinson in the final, Andy adapted his game to take the title in 4 sets.

Whilst Dawn Pearce was busy winning her Mixed and Ladies Doubles’ Titles, she was pushed all the way by Haddenham’s Cynthia Kunschke who took one leg off her in the Ladies Singles Final and partnered Susana Hansell as runners up in the Ladies Doubles. Lianne Fisher from Aylesbury Sports completed a strong championship partnering Haddenham’s Jon Abungan as runners up to Dawn and Michael Wilkins in the Doubles event.

In other events Nick Hansell beat his Sports team mate, Mike Atkinson to win the over 55, Super Veterans Title, Andy Misseldine overcame Alan Cherry for a second time in the Veterans event, Craig Brown from Bierton took the handicap trophy beating Bellingdon’s Bassam Mocharrafie, Cynthia Kunschke won the Division One event from David Bradbury and Brian Whitehead from Bucks won the Division Two Title from Quainton’s Paul Unwin. Many thanks must go to the Organiser, David Ballard, for a highly enjoyable day of table tennis.
