Shock Result at the World Championships

At the Liebherr 2010 World Team Table Tennis Championships this afternoon a result that will go down in history was returned. Singapore defeated China in the Women's Team Championships, the first time in almost 20 years that China have been defeated and only the second time in 35 years. The Singapore team - mainly players who honed their skills in Beijing turned the table tennis world on its head. World No 1 Liu Shiwen had a disaster losing both to Wang Yue Gu, the world no 15 and Feng Tainwei the world no 9. Fang Tainwei was the key player for Singapore winning also against Ding Ning, the world no 5. A Guo Yan win over Sun BeiBei was all the Chinese team had for their efforts.

The Chinese Men's team were too good for Germany, Timo Boll did win against Ma Long in the first individual match but that was all the Germans could aquire, China won 3-1 for the fifth time in a row. Ma Lin was on fire beating both Dimitrij Ovtcharov in three games and Timo Boll in four. Zhang Jike added the third match with a win over Christian Suss.
