Keothavong bows out of US Open
31st August 2010Anne Keothavong has gone out of the US Open in round one after a three set defeat to Yung-Jan Chan of Chinese Taipei.
The British No.3 started the match well, breaking her opponent immediately to open up an early lead, which she went on to consolidate.
Keothavong broke her opponent three times across the course of the match and looked impressive when she wrapped up the first set 6-2 in 30 minutes.
However Yung-Jan Chan then raised her game and took the second set 6-1, before repeating the feat in the third to close out the match in just over two hours.
Chan will go on to play Tamira Paszek of Austria who defeated the Czech No.26 seed Lucie Safarova 2-6, 7-5, 6-2, with a possible meeting with top seed Caroline Wozniacki round three.
In the men's doubles event Ross Hutchins & Scott Lipsky (USA) lost out 7-6(4), 6-3 to the fifth seeds Lukasz Kubot (POL) & Oliver Marach (AUT).
Despite being on even terms all the way to a tie-break in the first set the British/American combination lost out after dropping the tie-break and being broken in set two.
The No.5 seeds will now meet Ben Becker (GER) & Leonardo Mayer (ARG) or Leos Friedl (CZE) & Dusan Vemic (SRB) in round two.
Wednesday will see all the remaining Brits in action in the form of Andy Murray, Colin Fleming & Ken Skupski and Elena Baltacha.
