The Boccia Day was the first training opportunity in this format to be organised by SDS. The three main components – coaching, officiating and classification – were brought together and presented to participants. The Boccia Day was held at The Peak, Stirling and 34 delegates attended. The success of the day must be attributed to the experience and quality of the tutors presenting, Richard Brickley, International Classifier, Jacqueline Lynn, Coach to the GB Boccia Team in Beijing 2008, and Claire Morrison, Assistant Coach with the GB Boccia Team and Head Scottish Boccia Coach.
The outcomes of the day were: a better knowledge and understanding of Boccia coaching, officiating and classification, an appreciation of how to develop the skills of Boccia for players, how to contribute to the SDS Talent Identification process and how to develop clubs locally.
Evaluations from the Day demonstrated that the Day was well received by delegates, with the content of the day receiving an average score of 4.6 out of 5 (92%) with 96% of the attendees scoring the content as good or excellent. The delegates scored the tutors as 4.8 out of 5. Overall the workshop gained a score of 4.6 out of 5 or 92% of the individuals scoring good or excellent. 100% would recommend the course.
