The inaugural 'Aviemore 10Km road race for all' will take place at 11am on Sunday 17th October 2010 alongside the 5th Aviemore Half Marathon. This new route is 'Jones' measured and will be taking place under UK Athletics regulations. It is a fast downhill race from Glenmore to Aviemore and has been tested by our own local wheelchair athlete Bryan Stevens and some of his friends. Sub-20min times have already been recorded but that was outside race conditions and the road had not been closed to traffic as it will on the day. This is 2 weeks before the Jedburgh Wheelchair Champs and will prove a great warm up race for wheelchair athletes.
The race will be open to wheelchairs and hand bikes and separate prizes for both will be awarded. We also have at least one blind runner taking part and is more than suitable for those with impaired or no sight.
The event is being organised jointly between Badaguish Outdoor Centre (Speyside Trust) and the Cairngorm Runners jogscotland. It is a charity event on behalf of Speyside Trust.
