The British Wheelchair Bowls Association hosted the first British Matchplay Championship at the recently refurbished Stoke Mandeville Stadium in Aylesbury.
Eight teams from Wales, Scotland, Ireland and five English regions took part. Charlie Russell and Jim Sellar from the West of Scotland were the Scottish bowlers who qualified to compete in this major indoor event in the national calendar. Jim Sellar has enjoyed a wonderful sporting year excelling in wheelchair curling, reaching the final of the SDS outdoor championships in Aberdeen and being selected for the Home International Bowls Championship in Dumfries. In Aylesbury he won the mens plate competition in singles and partnered Charlie to a third place in the pairs. Charlie Russell similarly was selected for the national team in Dumfries following his top four finish at Westburn Park, Aberdeen. He has enjoyed a wonderful year in competitive bowls and has assisted SDS personnel enormously to develop the sport nationally and internationally.
