On Tuesday 25th November Ash Hill played host to Highworth in the first fixture of the new season for both teams. With both schools fielding many new and inexperienced players it was difficult to know what to expect, a situation made all the more difficult by a torrential downpour that lasted throughout the match.
Despite the atrocious conditions both teams make every effort to play attacking netball with end to end action throughout. Highworth opened up with two early scores and had built a 3-1 lead by half time, yet there was little to chose between the two sides as each wasted several good chances to add to their tally.
As soaked to the skin players grew accustomed to the conditions the frequency of scoring increased and Grace Allen of Highworth soon got her eye inscoring a total of 5 in Highworths eventual 10 - 2 victory. Both teams showed lots of potential for the coming season and will look forward to meeting again in a return fuxture during the Spring Term, by which time its hoped that Clare Eastgate will have dried out sufficiently to lend her support once again!
