A very different Windsor Lions took to the pitch for the Abbey tournament with injuries and Easter holidays taking their toll seeing six established players absent from duty.
However many Tigers have been looking for a chance to break into the team and the Abbey Shield gave them the perfect opportunity to shine - and how they all did!
Points from each age group at the tournament are aggregated - 4 for a win, 2 for a draw, and 1 for a loss - and added up amongst all age groups from Under 7's to Under 12's.
The club with the most at the end of the tournament wins the Abbey Shield - and thanks to a magnificent tally of 11 points out of a possible 16 our age group played their part.
First up were the toughest side Redingensians which, with our Under 10's annoying trademark of playing a lousy first match, meant our team would have to really play well.
Unfortunately due to poor tackling we went down 15-0 in a disappointing match.
In the second against Maidenhead, skipper Seb Moseley had just put the Under 10's in front when scrum half Daniel Pyatt had to go off for stitches to a nasty cut in his lip.
George Matthews stepped in to ably replace him and did brilliantly behind the new look pack of props Theo Masters-Waage and Billy Richardson with Elliott Fisher hooking.
Seb Moseley scored again and his nephew Danny Moseley added another brace to give themselves a well earned 20-10 victory over their local rivals.
Next up were Bracknell which was a very physical game but great tackling throughout in particular from Nick Trott, Danny Moseley and Robert Moran kept them out.
Seb Moseley scored another try and Windsor had one controversially disallowed, but Bracknell finally found a gap and replied to make it a 5-5 draw.
In the final game against home team Abbey, the forwards were again awesome with Elliott Fisher, despite an injured shoulder, fighting valiantly for every scrap of ball.
Prop Masters-Waage had a fine game supported by regular Billy Richardson and thanks to more fine tackling in the backs, Abbey were kept out and Seb Moseley scored his fourth of the day for a 5-0 victory.
With 11 points to put in the overall point the U-10's contribution helped Windsor retain the Abbey Shield for a second year running.
On the positive side all the Tigers including wing Oliver Brown did themselves proud and continue to make selection a headache for the coaches as the season draws to an end.
With the final tournament of the season at Worthing on April 25, seperating the Lions from the Tigers will not be an easy task.  Congratulations to all!
Winners medals will be handed out to all boys who went to Abbey that didn't collect one at the presentation after the tournament - please see me at next training session April 18!No training on April 11 - have a happy Easter!!!
